Web Marketing – Get Personal With It

Why you’re a natural for web marketing.

Chances are if you are reading this you are a small to medium sized business owner. Chances are you became a success because you understand and know your customers, often by their first name.  You know what they like, what they need and you have no problem tailoring your services to meet their needs.

You know how to be personal with them. It’s second nature to you. Keeping your customers happy puts money in your pocket.

Web marketing should be a natural for you.

80% of online shoppers who signed up for to receive promotional emails say that they find it helpful if the products featured in emails are based on their previous purchases. (Listrak, Jan 2015)

So why is your brochure-ware website and your once a month email blasts and the occasional post on your Facebook page lacking in that personal touch that made you successful? Why do people turn into stiffs when it comes things digital?

It’s so easy now to be personal.  It just takes a bit of planning and effort.

70% of retailers report that they have email capabilities, but only 31% see targeted emails as an opportunity. (CQuotient, May 2014)

The good news is you can change that. The bad news is that if you don’t, your business could be suffering in the next few years. Why? Your customers are beginning to expect it.

Going One to One.

Years ago I read a book called the One to One Future by Don Peppers and Martha Rogers. They predicted the end of mass marketing and coming of mass personalization.  One size never did fit all. The then emerging communication technologies were going to make sure everyone got what they wanted, ordered to fit.Web Marketing Personal Touch

This was in 1996, the internet was this shiny new toy and I was cruising around the net on a blistering 14.4 k modem.  I think I was on CompuServe.  I liked CompuServe because I could access the airline’s reservation system, SABRE, and get good deals on airline tickets.

Fast forward about 20 years and what Pepper and Rogers predicted is now just everyday web marketing.  The great part for you is that technologies you need to take advantage are here, easy to access and very affordable.

67% of American shoppers enjoy reading product recommendations on a retailers website. (Listrak, Jan. 2015)

While the data I quoted here applies to retailers, personalization applies to both B2B and B2C businesses. What business doesn’t benefit from that personal touch?
